A tailor-made welcome for the ema and its agents

Central, purpose-built premises to accommodate the EMA

“Biotope”, a tailor-made building fully suited to the needs of the EMA will be built to accommodate the Agency. Larger than the EMA’s current premises, it will be located in the heart of Lille’s business district, in the immediate vicinity of the stations and with numerous hotel rooms within walking distance. The provisional delivery timetable will fit in with the European schedule and that of the agency itself, so that it is fully operational in March 2019.

Located close to the transport networks, the 30,000 m² of the building project was designed for the EMA by architects from the Danish agency Henning Larsen and KeurK from Lille.

A personalised welcome for staff and their families

Lille will provide complete assistance for the arrival of EMA employees and their families with the help of local partners (HR offices, council teams, estate agencies, schools, etc.). The duration of this support will be defined with the EMA.

Collective and individual support will include in particular accommodation, school and  spouse’s employment.

We offer a support plan in 4 phases using a one-stop shop approach

1. A one-stop to answer all your questions

  • A dedicated website from August 2017 introducing the city along with testimonies from other families who have settled in Lille…
  • A toll-free number from the UK giving you access to a telephone reception centre. Our advisers will provide you with a first level of information (accommodation, health, administrative procedures, support processes) and refer you to an expert who will provide a fully adapted response within 48 hours.

2. Ways to discover Lille

  • Information days at the EMA headquarters to introduce Lille and the personalised assistance on offer.
  • Provision of a welcome pack with guides to help you settle in, maps etc.
  • Lille “discovery days” to help you feel the pulse of the city, the metropolis and its various districts.

3. Assistance before and after arriving in Lille for you and your family

  • Support searching for a place to live, enrolling your children in school and initial administrative procedures (opening a bank account, registering for social security).
  • Personalised assistance from a specialist team to help your spouse find a job in Lille…

4. Help finding your feet

  • French foreign language courses.
  • Some meetings arranged with foreign families who have recently settled in Lille.
  • Special support from Lille’s “regional ambassadors”.
  • A great “Newcomers” party in Lille in the autumn of 2019.

Living in a multicultural metropolis

Fifteen or so private and public providers (universities, associations…) teach French as a foreign language in the Lille European Metropolis, among which: the Alliance Française, Lil’langues, the universities of Lille 1, Lille 2 and Lille 3, the Catholic University, CPLE, CUEPP…

The metropolis also has numerous Franco-foreign associations such as the British Cultural Centre, the Swedish Circle of Lille, the Franco-Chinese Friendship, the Goethe Institute and the American Club of Lille.

These stakeholders will help with the successful integration of expatriates.
